Celebrant and registrar

Different roles. One ceremony plan that feels completely yours.

For couples choosing a civil legal ceremony in England and Wales, a registrar and an independent celebrant do different jobs — and many couples choose both.

Personal ceremony

What Clare does as your celebrant

Clare gets to know you, writes a ceremony from your story and leads it in a setting and style that suit you. It can include personal promises, readings, music, symbolic rituals and the people you want to involve.

As the law currently stands in England and Wales, Clare's independent celebrant-led ceremony is not, by itself, a legally binding marriage.

Legal civil ceremony

What a registrar does

A registrar conducts or attends the civil ceremony that fulfils the legal marriage requirements. Civil ceremonies take place at a register office or council-approved venue and require two witnesses.

They can include agreed personal wording, readings and music, while following the legal framework and the rule that civil ceremonies cannot include religious content.

Clare can also support destination wedding ceremonies across the UK and beyond, with permissions and travel logistics discussed clearly as part of your quote.
